Hackberry Emperor Butterflies (Asterocampa celtis) / Green June Beetle (Cotinus mutabilis)

Stinchcomb Wildlife Preserve • Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

All of these specimens were attracted to the sap on these broken Mimosa Tree Limbs. This was during severe drought,

and water, flowers and other sources of nectar and water were scarce. The Emperor butterflies eventually ran the beetle away.
