Beetle Antennae

Brown Chafer Beetle (Hoplia Dispar)

Beetles can have one of several types of antennae. These differences in the antennae are important in determining the correct identification in many beetle species.

 

The antennae function as sensory receptors, and are quite sensitive to motion, vibration, odors, and some chemicals. Beetle antennae are segmented and usually contain eleven segments/

 

The antenna shown here are the lamellate form.
