How To Tell The Difference Between A Fly And A Bee
Here are three things to check:
Bees have two pairs of wings, whereas flies have only one set. Since the fore wings and hind wings of bees are usually connected, they may appear to have only one pair.
Bees have proportionately long antennae, most flies have very short antennae, with a long bristle called an arista at the tip.
Both have compound eyes that detect movement. That is why it’s hard to hit them with a fly-swatter. But flies have very large eyes that meet at the top of the head on the males. They almost meet on the females.
Bees also have pollen baskets on their legs which flies do not have.
